passed away on July 25, 2016 at the age of 86.

Vernal was born Feb. 27, 1930 in Aberdeen, Washington to McCoy & Tina McGlothlin

Vernal enlisted as a Seaman Apprentice on Sept. 15, 1947. Vernal started at the U.S. Naval Training Center, San Diego, CA (9/18/47) at the rate of SA. and from there he went to the U.S. Naval Station, Charleston, South Carolina (1/4/48). At the rate of SA.

In 1948 Vernal went on the USS Noa (DD 841) was on the Noa from 1/23/1948 to 1952 at the rate of FN, BT3.

In Sept. 1952 Vernal went on the USS Laffey (DD 724) at the rate BT3, until Jan. 3, 1954.

In Jan. 1954 Vernal went on the USS Storms (DD 780) at the rate of BT3, until Sept. 1954. Vernal left the USS Storms and went to the Naval Training Center in San Diego, CA. from 1954 to 1956.

In Sept. of 1956 Vernal went on the USS Bausell (DD 845) until 1959 at the rate of a BT1.

In Jan. of 1959 Vernal went on the USS Tingey (DD 539) until 1960 at the rate of a BT1.

In Feb. of 1960 Vernal went to the Fleet Training Group in San Diego, CA. as a instructor/observer until Feb. 1963.

In March of 1963 Vernal went on the USS Lofberg (DD 759) until Nov. 1965 at the rate 32YDD BT1 BTC.

In 1965 to 1967 Vernal went to the Armed Forces Police Stationed at Treasure Island, San Francisco, CA.

In July 1967 Vernal retired from the Navy. By the time he retired Chief Evans had served on 6 destroyers, went around the world twice, and saw a lot of different ports and meet a lot of different people. Vernal enjoyed his service in the Navy.

After Vernal's retirement from the Navy he went to work for the U.S. Navy ship yard at Hunter's Point, CA. as a boiler maker. Vernal worked there until the ship yard closed down in 1974.

Vernal then went to work for the water department on Treasure Island, San Francisco, CA. until 1975. At that time it was reformed and renamed Naval Public Works Center. Vernal was the Boiler Plant Operator and later became the plant Supervisor. Vernal finally retired in 1988.

Vernal belonged to serval organizations as the VFW, Masonic, Mooselodge, Elks, Eagles and the Fleet service.

Vernal enjoyed traveling with wife Betty and good friend Ron Severson to Laughlin where he enjoyed playing cards. Vernal enjoyed going to Colorado to visit family for camping and riding ATV'S, BBQ'S, golfing and playing cards with family and friends.

He was married in Sept. of 1952 to Mary Darline Quidley. They had three children: son Vernal Jr., Daugher Tina, Son Michael. Vernal was divorced from Mary in July 1968.

In Sept. 1968 Vernal married Norma (Tilman) Poppy and moved to Roseburg, OR. Norma passed away Oct. of 1995. Vernal married Betty (Bitterman) Senger of Roseburg, OR on June 28, 2004.

Vernal is survived by wife Betty Evans, daughter Tina & Husband David Snapp, Son Michael Evans, Brother Clarence & wife Alice Evans, daughter-in-law Donna Evans, step children Kevin Stringer and Kim Savey, multiple Nieces & Nephews, 9 grandchildren & 8 great grandchildren.
