Obituary for Elizabeth A. "Betty" Funk (Malot)

ELIZABETH “BETTY” ANNE FUNK 73 of Roseburg, Oregon passed away Saturday, August 20, 2016. She was born on August 23, 1942 in Morristown, New Jersey to Elizabeth and Woodrow Malot. Betty studied at Juniata College receiving her BA in Home Economics and at Penn State receiving a Masters in Clothing and Textiles. Betty married Frederick Funk in 1964 in Hustontown, Pennsylvania. They lived in Pasadena, California, Hershey, Pennsylvania and Flagstaff, Arizona, where they raised their two children before settling in Roseburg, Oregon in 2002. Betty was the manager of several fabric stores during the span of her career, retiring from the Wal-Mart fabric department in Roseburg. She was an avid quilter and sewer all of her life and loved sharing her passion for fabrics and quilting with the community and teaching others. Survivors include her husband of 52 years, Fred of Roseburg, Oregon; daughter Catherine (Chris) Minyard of Nampa, Idaho; son Timothy (Loree) Funk of Tucson, Arizona; two grandsons Austin Brothers of Carmel, Indiana and Caden Funk of Tucson, Arizona; brothers Roger (Mary Ann) of Canberra, Australia, R. Clem (Jana) of Harrisonville, Pennsylvania and Woodrow (Carrie) of Rabun Gap, Georgia; two nieces and two great nephews and a great niece. Betty was preceded in death by her parents Woodrow and Elizabeth Malot. A Celebration of Betty’s Life will be held Monday, August 29, 2016 from 3-6 at Wilson’s Chapel of the Roses. In lieu of flowers the family request that contributions be made in Betty’s memory to either the Quilters Guild of Roseburg or to Oregon Public Broadcasting and these may be left at Wilson’s Chapel of the Roses.
