RUTH SALOME ZIMMERMAN ROSE 102 of Roseburg, Oregon passed away Wednesday, May 3, 2017. She was born July 15, 1914 in Walnutport, Pennsylvania to William Zimmerman and Sadie Young. Her father was a minister. As a girl she picked dandelion greens and sold them to supplement the family income. After her mother’s death, Ruth helped raise her younger sisters and brother before moving to California in the 1940’s. Before her marriage she had a tea room and dress shop in Rancho Santa Fe, California. On May 21, 1957 in Reno, Nevada she married Sam L. Rose and they resided in several San Diego County towns. They built a home near Mt. Center where they operated Palms to Pines Real Estate. In 1987 the retired to the Portola Country Club, Palm Desert, spending summers in their RV, trout fishing at Stanley, Idaho. In 2001 they moved to Roseburg to be near Sam’s daughter Ellnora. Ruth enjoyed cooking, sewing, knitting, fishing and she always loved their dogs. She was preceded in death by her husband Sam on March 24, 2011; two half brother; two half sisters; three brothers; five sisters and one step great grandson. Survivors include her step daughters Ellnora Young of Roseburg and Mary Lynn Hodo of Keizer, Oregon; three step grandchildren Dan Young of Myrtle Creek, Vicki Lockwood and David Young both of Roseburg; five great grandchildren; 14 great great grandchildren and two great great great granddaughters; numerous nieces and nephews. At her request no funeral services will be held. Private cremation rites have been held. She will be interred with her husband Sam at Roseburg National Cemetery.
